Kladno used to be one of the biggest industrial centres in the Czech Republic. The privatization of Poldi Kladno, the largest enterprise in Central Bohemia, was one of the less successful privatizations in the Czech Republic. The Czech way of privatization of findind only a Czech owner was counterproductive and it led to a shutdown and finally a bankrupt of the firm in 1996 - 1997.
The main factory has been totally destroyed by the ravages of time at certain places. It is difficult to image that there used to be halls, roads, infrastructure and working men, instead of today’s ruins, falling building rests and gypsies who steal what they have not stolen yet. Not much left, though, so they rumagge through niffy or smouldering rubbish, diging out the pieces of the concrete.
